Chocolate Chip Toffee Bars

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter (smart balance brand, preferred)
- 1/2 cup egg substitute (egg beaters brand, preferred)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar, firmly packed
- 10 ounces chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 cups walnuts, chopped (or your choice)
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 350°f and grease a 13x9 baking pan.
- 2 combine flour with baking soda and salt in medium bowl.
- 3 in a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar; add the egg substitute and the vanilla to the butter/sugar mixture, beating well.
- 4 stir the flour mixture into the wet mixture until blended; stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips.
- 5 spread mixture into the greased baking pan and bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes.
- 6 remove from oven and sprinkle remaining chocolate chips over the top; cover with foil (to hold in heat) for about 2 minutes, until the chocolate is soft and spreadable.
- 7 spread chocolate over the surface of the bars and sprinkle with the chopped nuts.
- 8 let cool completely, then cut into 36 bars before cooling.
