Crackled Sugar Cookies

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 25 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 48
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour

Recipe

  • 1 in large bowl, beat butter and shortening on high for 30 seconds.
  • 2 add sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt and beat until combined.
  • 3 beat in egg yolks and vanilla until combined.
  • 4 mix in flour until well combined.
  • 5 shape into 1 inch balls and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • 6 bake at 300 degrees for about 20 minutes or until tops are just slightly crackled and sides are set.
  • 7 do not let edges brown -- if they do they are over done and will not be tender.
  • 8 transfer to wire rack to cool.
  • 9 may freeze up to 3 months.
