Cranberry-orange Buttermilk Scones

Ingredients

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup cold butter or 3/4 cup margarine
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Recipe
- 1 in a bowl, combine the flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
- 2 cut in butter till crumbly.
- 3 stir in buttermilk gently until just combined.
- 4 fold in cranberries and orange peel.
- 5 turn onto a floured surface and divide into two balls.
- 6 pat each ball into a six inch circle and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
- 7 cut each into six wedges, leaving them together on the pan.
- 8 brush with milk, then sprinkle on the sugar combined with the cinnamon.
- 9 bake in a 400 degree oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- 10 you can also cut them into circles with a round cookie cutter, but the baking time will be less if you place them on the baking sheet not touching each other.
