Aida's Single Pie Crust

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter, cold
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 7 -8 tablespoons ice water

Recipe

  • 1 in a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, and salt.
  • 2 cut in the butter until there are large crumbles.
  • 3 cut in the shortening until incorporated. the crumbles do not have to be uniform in size.
  • 4 add the ice water by tablespoon just until the dough can be shaped into a ball.
  • 5 form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap and let in rest in the refrigerator.
  • 6 roll to the desired size on a floured surface, place in pie plate, and pierce the bottom with fork tines.
  • 7 while preheating the oven, put a cookie sheet in the oven. place the pie plate on this hot surface while baking to ensure a flaky bottom crust.
