Caramel Bars

Ingredients

- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 egg whites
- 3/4 cup sugar
Recipe
- 1 to make the base: cream the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl.
- 2 add the egg yolks and mix well.
- 3 add the sifted flour and baking powder and mix well.
- 4 press into a greased jelly roll pan.
- 5 to make the caramel filling: combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and stir over low heat until dissolved.
- 6 do not allow to boil.
- 7 spread over the base.
- 8 to make the meringue: whip the egg whites until stiff but not dry.
- 9 gradually add the sugar, beating continuously.
- 10 spoon over the caramel.
- 11 bake in a 350 f.
- 12 oven for 50 minutes.
- 13 cut into bars while warm.
- 14 note: if the meringue is becoming too brown, cover with a sheet of wax paper halfway through the cooking period.
- 15 cooking for family& friends.
