Cherry-chocolate Cookies

Ingredients
- 2/3 cup softened butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 2/3 cups flour
- 6 tablespoons cocoa
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 36 maraschino cherries, halves
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- 2 cream butter, 3/4 cup sugar, egg, and vanilla in bowl until light and fluffy.
- 3 add mixture of flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt; mix well.
- 4 shape into 1 inch balls.
- 5 place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- 6 press cherry half into center of each cookie.
- 7 bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes or until almost set.
- 8 cool on wire rack.
- 9 combine 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons water in saucepan.
- 10 cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
- 11 remove from heat and add chocolate chips.
- 12 stir until chocolate melts.
- 13 frost tops of cookies, leaving cherries unfrosted.
