Citrus - Hazelnut Bars

Total Time: 50 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 1 cup flour (all, purpose)
  • 1/3 cup hazelnuts (finely chopped or filberts, almonds toasted)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 2 tablespoons flour (all, purpose)
  • 1 tablespoon orange (shredded finely peel)
  • 2 tablespoons oranges (juice)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon (finely shredded peel)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon (juice)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
  • 2 for crust: in a medium bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
  • 3 add 1/4 cup granulated sugar; beat until combined.
  • 4 beat in one cup of flour and half of the nuts until crumbly.
  • 5 press mixture into bottom of ungreased 8x8x2 - inch baking pan.
  • 6 bake about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • 7 meanwhile, in another medium bowl, combine eggs, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, orange peel, orange juice, lemon peel, lemon juice and baking powder.
  • 8 beat on medium speed about 2 minutes or until combined.
  • 9 pour mixture over crust.
  • 10 sprinkle with remaining nuts.
  • 11 bake about 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned and center is set.
  • 12 cool in pan on wire rack.
  • 13 if desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • 14 cut into bars.
  • 15 store bars, covered, in refrigerator.
