Buttermilk Cheese Biscuits

Total Time: 27 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 12 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour (plus some for the table and shaping)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, cold & cubed
  • 1 cup old cheddar cheese, grated (75 grams)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 425.
  • 2 place the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt in a medium bowl and whisk thoroughly distributed. mix in cheese.
  • 3 add buttermilk and gently mix until loose, and turn on to a floured surfance. (the dough will be sticky).
  • 4 lightly flour your hands and then gently knead and shape the dough into a ball. flatten the ball into a 1" thick disc.
  • 5 cut the dough into rounds with a 2" cookie cutter and set them on a parchment paper lined baking sheed.
  • 6 brush the tops of the biscuits with beaten egg. bake in the middle of the oven for 12 - 14 minutes, or until puffed and golden.
