Black-and-whites

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 25 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup salted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 (5 1/4 ounce) cup semisweet chocolate bars, coarsely chopped
  • 1 (5 1/4 ounce) cup chocolate baking bar, coarsely chopped

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 300 degrees f.
  • 2 in a medium bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • 3 mix well with a wire whisk; set aside.
  • 4 blend sugars in a large bowl using an electric mixer set at medium speed.
  • 5 add butter and mix to form a grainy paste, scraping down the sides of the bowl.
  • 6 add eggs and vanilla; beat at medium speed until combined.
  • 7 do not overmix!
  • 8 add the flour mixture and chocolates, and blend at a low speed until just combined.
  • 9 do not overmix!
  • 10 drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheets, 2-inches apart.
  • 11 bake 23 to 25 minutes.
  • 12 transfer cookies immediately to a cool flat surface upon removal from oven.
