Chocolate Dipped Brownies

Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins Preparation Time: 45 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts, toasted (i think i'll use sprinkles instead)

Recipe

  • 1 in a saucepan over medium heat, bring the sugar, butter, and water to a boil; remove pan from heat.
  • 2 stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips and the vanilla; stir until smooth.
  • 3 cool for 5 minutes.
  • 4 beat in the eggs, one at a time, until well mixed.
  • 5 combine the flour, salt, and baking soda; stir into the chocolate mixture just until combined.
  • 6 stir in another 1 cup of the chocolate chips; pour the batter into a greased 9 x 9" square baking pan and spread the top evenly.
  • 7 bake in a preheated 325°f oven for 30-35 minutes; cool completely on a wire rack.
  • 8 place the cooled brownie pan in the freezer for 30-40 minutes (do not freeze completely); cut brownies into 2 x 1" sticks.
  • 9 in a saucepan, melt the remaining 2 cups chocolate chips with the shorteneing; stirring until smooth.
  • 10 using a small fork, dip the brownies into the chocolate to completely coat them; shake off any excess chocolate.
  • 11 place the dipped brownies onto a waxed paper-lined cookie sheet; immediately sprinkle tops with nuts (or whatever else you may choose).
  • 12 allow brownies to set; store in an airtight container in a cool place.
