Ingredients

• 1 cup shortening
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1 cup sugar
• 3 eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 4 cups flour
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 lb dates
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1/4 cup water (or more)
• 1 cup nuts, chopped

Recipe

• 1 mix cookie ingredients. roll on floured board 1/2 inch thick.
• 2 mix filling ingredients and cook until hot; cool.
• 3 spread on dough like jelly roll.
